World mental health day
This year, the theme is Mental Health in an unequal world with a focus on the impact of the pandemic.
The global Covid-19 pandemic brought with it a focus on mental health. The national lockdowns, increased isolation and separation from family and friends, the uncertainty around what the ‘new normal’ will look like and financial pressures felt by those who were unable to work, culminated in a mental health crisis. This was also felt by those in the ex-military community.
Walking With The Wounded (‘WWTW’) supports those who served through our mental health, employment and care coordination programmes and we work closely with our principal partner, the NHS, to deliver these to the veterans and their family members.
Our expeditions, like The Grenadier Walk of Oman, help to fund these vital programmes, they also act as a platform to inspire those coping with mental and physical wounds and demonstrate that our military and ex-military can achieve at the very highest level.
The Grenadier Walk of Oman expedition team has all experienced physical or mental injuries.
Before The Grenadier Walk of Oman team started their journey across the UK, they visited the National Memorial Arboretum to pay their respects and this morning The Grenadier Walk of Oman officially began as the team climbed Pen-Y-Fan.
In our latest video, hear team member, Ben McComb, talk about why World Mental Health Day is important.
